Notable absentees
Rudi Garcia has retained the spine of Belgium's Golden Generation — Courtois, De Bruyne, Lukaku, and Witsel are the four most-capped players in the squad — while integrating younger talent. Captain Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana form a "world-class double-pivot" in midfield. Belgium are heavy favourites in Group G alongside Egypt, Iran, and New Zealand, opening against Egypt on June 16. Belgium remain the great underachievers — for years ranked #1 in FIFA's world rankings during the Golden Generation era but with no major trophy. Their 2018 third-place finish at the Russia World Cup remains the country's best-ever result.
| Player | Club | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Lucas Stassin | Saint-Étienne | Uncapped forward who attended the pre-World Cup training camp but didn't make the final 26 |
| Mika Godts | Ajax | Uncapped winger who joined the training camp but was left out of the final list |
| Nathan De Cat | Anderlecht | Called up to the camp at 17 — Garcia said 'talent does not wait for age' — but ultimately didn't make the final 26 |
