Notable absentees
Mohamed Salah at 33 captains his nation at what is almost certainly his last World Cup. Remarkably, he sits on 67 international goals — just TWO behind head coach Hossam Hassan's all-time Egypt record of 69. Salah surpassing his own coach's record at this tournament is one of the most unique storylines at the 2026 World Cup. Egypt have NEVER won a match at the World Cup despite four appearances (1934, 1990, 2018, 2026), and the SeattleFWC26 designation makes their opening match against Belgium on June 15 doubly significant (it has been designated by the City of Seattle as a Pride Match, with Egypt's federation having objected). 18-year-old Hamza Abdelkarim — currently on loan from Al-Ahly at Barcelona Atlètic — is the surprise X-factor inclusion. Group G includes Belgium, Iran, and New Zealand. Egypt face Iran on June 21 in Vancouver and New Zealand on June 26 in Toronto.
| Player | Club | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Mostafa Mohamed | Nantes | Surprise omission — only 4 goals in 24 matches as Nantes were relegated from Ligue 1 |
| Aqtay "Oktay" Abdullah | Enppi | Cut from the preliminary 27-man squad |
