    About MetLife Stadium

MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey has a capacity of 82,500 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The venue will host 8 matches during the tournament.

MetLife Stadium is the largest venue at the 2026 World Cup with a capacity of 82,500. Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey — approximately 10 miles west of Manhattan — it serves as the home stadium for both the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL. The stadium opened in 2010, replacing the original Giants Stadium which stood on the same site.

For the World Cup, MetLife's permanent artificial turf surface has been replaced with a hybrid natural grass pitch. The installation was overseen by FIFA's pitch management team in partnership with the University of Tennessee and Michigan State University. New irrigation systems, backup water tanks, and ventilation equipment were installed to maintain the playing surface throughout the tournament's five-week duration.
